Nikola Basarić, PhD - Winner of 'Leopold Ružička' Annual Award
At the annual meeting of the Croatian Chemical Society, Nikola Basarić, PhD was awarded with the prestigious award 'Leopold Ružička'. This award is given annually to young Croatian scientists for excellence in academic work in the field of chemistry.
Nikola Basarić, PhD until today published 32 scientific papers in CC scientific journals and one review article, of which 16 papers for which he was awarded, have been published in the past 4 years. Arriving to the Laboratory of synthetic organic chemistry, at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Basarić, PhD, started with a new research on the synthesis and photochemistry of derivatives of adamantive ftalimids, in order to prepare potential antivirus and anticancer drugs. Also, the head of the new UKF project - Synthesis and photochemistry of polycyclic derivatives of phenols: potential precursors for long-lived Quinone methides. The aim of this project is the synthesis and study of photochemical reactivity of polycyclic phenol derivatives which in the photochemical reactions produce the quinone-methids, potential antiproliferative agens.
For his scientific work Nikola Basarić Ph.D. received numerous awards and honors among which is important to emphasize the award of the Croatian Chemical Society Vladimir Prelog (2005.), and the Annual Award for the young scientists from the Association of the University Teachers.
