CIR Interactive Workshop - Introduction to bioinformatics analysis with Galaxy application
Workshop lecturer: dr. sc. Enis Afgan, Ruđer Bošković Institute, Center for informatics and computing (CIR)
When? Tuesday, September 30th 2014. - 9:30 to 13 o'clock
Where? IRB, library, V.wing
For who? Scientists and novices interested in computer analysis of biological data; people who develop their own computer programs and / or pipeline and they will want to incorporate in the Galaxy ecosystem.
Workshop description
Galaxy is a web platform for integration and analysis of bioinformatics data. This interactive workshop will introduce users to the Galaxy application and show participants how to create a multi-stepping analysis using the genomic data. We will also cover basic topics of bioinformatics, such as common file formats and visualization. The workshop will, through CloudMan applications, use the computing resources in the cloud (eScience Cloud service) and demonstrate and train students to use the same for their own analysis. Participants will gain knowledge and skills and will be ready to make a basic analysis of bioinformatics data using Galaxy app, how to use computing resources in the cloud, and how to access additional educational resources for many other types of analysis.
Workshop topics
- Review of Galaxy and CloudMan applications
- Starting your own, scalable computing platforms in the cloud
- Analysis of bioinformatics data
- Extending the Galaxy platform with additional programs
