HPC for SME Collaboration Pull Meeting in Balkan Region successfully held
HPC for SME Collaboration Pull Meeting in Balkan Region, organized by Ruđer Bošković Institute, Centre for informatics and computing, was successfully held on 27th of March 2017 in Belgrade at the Institute of Physics Belgrade (IPB), in the hall "Zvonko Maric".
Meeting and workshop were attended by 35 participants from research institutes, universities and SMEs from Serbia and Macedonia. The workshop was also followed by a significant number of participants via video streaming in Podgorica (Monte Negro), Sarajevo and Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Video recording was made and was released on YouTube.
Meeting and workshop were divided into three sections: Plenary, Technical and Training. In Plenary session, after the introduction and greeting of IPB director dr Bogojević, deputy director dr. A. Balaž gave a lecture on HPC in the Innovation Center of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. After first lecture, dr. Ivanović held a presentation about modern trends and applications in HPC technologies. Followed dr. B. Stanojević from Vodena d.o.o. SME, from Kragujevac, who gave a representation of a use case about "Simulation of loss of water in hydroelectric power stations". Lecture pointed out from the methodology and technology to the simulation methods and how they can remediate the loss of large amounts of water at hydroelectric power plants. Beyond that, dr. K. Skala gave a presentation on EU strategic guidelines in the field of application of HPC technologies with special focus on the SME companies.
In the technical section, held by Dr. K. Skala, SESAME Net project and HPC4SME tool for assessment of the application of HPC were presented as well as Best Practices and application examples of the use of HPC at SME companies. After extensive discussions, Workshop continued with Training section carried out practically through HPC4SME tool and face to face consultation with SME firms was provided.
