Bioactive materials are of the most importance for bone tissue regeneration during bone defects. The intention is to find a biomaterial that would have osteoconductive, osteoinductive properties and will enhance bone formation as well as vascularisation. Bioglass is very attractive biomaterial because it possesses a great deal of these properties. On the other hand copper is known as an essential cofactor of several enzymes, proangiogenic and antimicrobial agent and has been found to stimulate osteogenic differentiation. For these reasons we believe that a novel Cu-doped bioactive glass could be very attractive biomaterial for bone regeneration in tissue engineering technology.
