Uncovering Links between Peripartum Mental and Metabolic Health through Metabolomic and Genetic Analyses
Principal investigator
The LinkMe project investigates the biological mechanisms linking gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and peripartum depression and anxiety.
We are particularly interested in blood metabolomics, platelet serotonin parameters, genetic polymorphisms, and gene expression in tissues that regulate maternal physiology during pregnancy, such as the placenta and adipose tissue. Our goal is to uncover potential biomarkers and underlying mechanisms that are shared or distinct between these interrelated health conditions.
In addition, we study cord blood metabolomics in relation to maternal blood metabolomics, placental gene expression, and maternal metabolic and mental health to better understand how biological processes in the mother and fetus are interlinked and how the fetus is influenced by maternal health during pregnancy.
