Laboratory for advanced genomics
The Laboratory for Advanced Genomics aims to provide the research community with access to High Throughput Sequencing (HTS) and enable accelerated progress in the field of genomic research based on the integration of recombinant DNA technology, functional genomics and NGS technology.

Evolution and innovation in genomics, especially in the field of next-generation sequencing (NGS), is becoming a constant, while waves of instrument, method or computational tool development occur at an incredible speed, and therefore their adoption is an increasing problem for most laboratories.
Building a strong team of scientists and technical staff specializing in genomics, bioinformatics and personalized medicine (PM) will enhance the Laboratory's ability to conduct cutting-edge research and help embrace advanced technologies to provide a more comprehensive understanding of biological systems and diseases.
In order to realize the set goals, the Laboratory for advanced genomics (LAG) participates in the European Flagship initiative 1+MG (https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/1-million-genomes) which aims at cross-border access to one million sequenced genomes , and is connected with top international organizations and institutes through the implementation of several EU projects, for example GDI (https://gdi.onemilliongenomes.eu/), and GoE- Genome of Europe.
LAG strives to create a fully sustainable world-class research center in genomics for the advancement of PM, fully integrated into the European research environment, with a focus on the global problem called VUS, i.e. gene variants of unknown significance.
Therefore, LAG will develop and implement a new and systematic experimental approach for VUS characterization with high throughput, which in the long term will lead to the identification of clinically effective VUS that can serve as new drug targets, especially important for cancer research and rare or complex diseases.
