11th International Masterclasses 2015
Each year about 10000 high school students in 42 countries come to one of about 200 nearby universities or research centres for one day in order to unravel the mysteries of particle physics.
Thanks to RBI scientists as well as their colleagues from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split (FESB), as well as the support by the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ), Croatian high school students will join their peers around the world in five Croatian cities: Split (27 Feb), Zagreb (6 . and 26 Mar), Osijek and Vinkovci (7 Mar), and Dubrovnik (16 Mar).
The high schoolers will participate in lectures from active scientists who will give them insight in topics and methods of basic research at the fundaments of matter and forces, thus enabling the students to perform measurements on real data from particle physics experiments themselves.
At the end of each day, like in an international research collaboration, the participants will join in a video conference for discussion and combination of their results.
This program is organized at TU-Dresden and at QuarkNet Notre Dame in the framework of the International Particle Physics Outreach Group IPPOG. The video linkup between the institutes is realized with valuable technical support from the Vidyo support at CERN IT and at Fermilab IT. We gratefully acknowledge financial support from CERN, EPS HEPP High-Energy and Particle Physics Division of the European Physical Society, and from TU Dresden and from the US National Science Foundation and the US Department of Energy. An offline version of this website is available as DVD from the organizers.
