New Innovative Equipment for Prospective Scientists
PhD students from the International Program in Biophysics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Split, the first of this kind in Croatia, will be able to use the new innovative equipment in the execution of the experimental part of their projects at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, thanks to the support provided by the Ministry of science, education and sport. Moreover, the Program offers a diverse array of mandatory and elective courses taught by a large number of Croatian and international lecturers - active researchers of which even fifteen lectures come from the Ruđer Bošković Institute and they will hold four mandatory and three elective courses.
International PhD Program in Biophysics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Split was declared opened at the inauguration ceremony held on 18 December 2008. This postgraduate study is the first PhD Program in Natural Sciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Split and first Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Biophysics in Croatia.
The PhD Program was a result of a fruitful and extensive cooperation between the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (PMFST), Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (MedILS) and Medical School (MEFST) in Split as well as the Institute for Physics and Ruđer Bošković Institute (IRB) in Zagreb. This PhD Program offers a possibility of completing a doctoral degree in a number of most advanced areas of biophysics ranging from structural bioinformatics and medical physics to computational biophysics of macromolecules. The Program also offers the possibility of completing doctoral work with the highest international standards and represents a strong foundation for an independent scientific and research career in academia or industry. Conceived in a very flexible fashion, the Program is open to students with different undergraduate degrees.
The current members of the Management are: Prof. Davor Juretić (PMFST), the Program Manager and contact person, academician Stjepan Marčelja, Council Chairman, then Program Co- managers from the companion institutions - Prof. Vesna Svetličić (IRB), Bojan Zagrović, PhD (MedILS) and Prof. Davor Eterović (MEFST), as well as Prof. Neven Zarković (IRB), Council Vice Chairman.
