Jan 24th 2011

The new trisubstituted guanidine derivative efficiently catalyzes the transesterification reactions of sunflower, rapeseed and soybean oils in methanol. Besides biodiesel production, guanidine catalyst can be used in the production of fine chemicals, organocatalysis, various research studies and everywhere a catalyst for transesterification reactions is needed.

Biodiesel production, which includes the transesterification of vegetable oils with methanol in the presence of a catalyst, is a growing trend in nearly all the countries of the EU. In Croatia alone, by the year 2010 there will be 157,000 tons of biodiesel produced, and by 2010 the share of bio fuel in the total fuel consumption of EU countries should be 5.75%, and 20% by 2020, which assures this innovation a bright future in terms of commercialization.
