Third Patent granted to RBI Scientists
Mario Stipčević, PhD has recently been granted a patent for Quantum Random Number Generator (QRBG) by the State Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Croatia. The QRBG patent is a result of many years of extensive scientific research and it is the third patent granted to RBI scientists so far.
Division of Electronics signed 3 Project Contracts
RBI Division of Electronics has recently signed contracts for three projects on information technology applications. All three projects were initiated on a proposal by junior researchers Fran Supek (REVIGO), Nives Škunca (GORBI) and Ivan Ivek (GMDH) and supported by the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports.
Project awarded with 100.000 €
The project 'Metallated bioconjugates for applications in biological and material sciences' led by RBI returnee scientist Srećko Kirin, PhD, was awarded with 100.000,00 € by the 'National Foundation for Science’ (NZZ). The 'Homing Program' for returnee scientists was open for a period of three years (2006 – 2008). During this period a total of 23 applications were submitted, of which 10 projects were granted support.
Croatia joins MAGIC Collaboration
At the last Governing Board meeting of collaboration MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov), which was held on the Island of Elba, Italy, a Croatian team of scientists was unanimously accepted in full membership thanks to the support provided by their home institutions: Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI), University of Split and the University of Rijeka as well as the support of the Ministry of Education and Sports and the National Foundation for Science.
RBI paper published in Physical Review Letters
The paper Comment on 'Mass Lambda and K coupling of the N * (1535)' by RBI scientists Saša Ceci, PhD, Alfred Švarc, PhD and Branimir Zauner, BSc from the Group for Hadron Spectroscopy at the Division of Experimental Physics, was published in the prestigious scientific journal Physical Review Letters.

Omega Software Ltd. delegation and RBI representative Tomislav Šmuc, PhD, Head of the Division of Electronics, have recently presented the first results of the joint project 'Development of modules for the electronic document and information exchange in the office system as an upgrade of the Centrix business solutions' at the Central Office for e-Croatia.

At the exhibition '3D Visualization in Science and Economy' the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) - Center for Scientific Visualization (CenVis) today presented for the first time the 3D scientific technology.
Danica Ramljak took over as RBI Director
Danica Ramljak, D.V.M., Ph.D today officially took over her duty of Director of Ruđer Bošković Institute to a four - year term. Dr Ramljak pointed out that she will pursue her vision of leading the Institute along the path of progress from a national to the European Centre of Excellence.
RBI gets new accelerator
RBI launched a new generation particle accelerator today. The 18 MeV cyclotron 'Cyclone 18/9 HC' from Belgian firm IBA accelerates charged particles using a high-frequency, alternating voltage (potential difference).
The first light ceremony of the MAGIC-II telescope
RBI scientists Dario Hrupec, PhD and Tihomir Surić, PhD are the members of the international scientific collaboration MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov), which has recently launched second gamma-telescope, named MAGIC-II at the first light ceremony that took place at Roque de los Muchachos on the Canary Island of La Palma in Spain.
