LRE Became National Laboratory for Radioactivity Measurements
Pursuant to the Decision by the State Office for Metrology on accepting the etalon of the Laboratory for Radioecology, Division for Marine and Environmental Research of the Ruđer Bošković Institute for the purposes of national etalon activities, the Laboratory for Radioecology was awarded the status of the National Laboratory for Radioactivity Measurements. In the Republic of Croatia National Laboratories are nominated by the State Office for Metrology in accordance with National Metrology Plan for different fields and pursuant to national policy on scientific metrology.
New Innovative Equipment for Prospective Scientists
PhD students from the International Program in Biophysics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Split, the first of this kind in Croatia, will be able to use the new innovative equipment in the execution of the experimental part of their projects at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, thanks to the support provided by the Ministry of science, education and sport. Moreover, the Program offers a diverse array of mandatory and elective courses taught by a large number of Croatian and international lecturers - active researchers of which even fifteen lectures come from the Ruđer Bošković Institute and they will hold four mandatory and three elective courses.
A genetic trigger for the Cambrian explosion unraveled?
A team of scientists led by young Croatian evolutionary geneticist Tomislav Domazet-Lošo from Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) in Zagreb, Croatia, developed a novel methodological approach in evolutionary studies. Using the method they named 'genomic phylostratigraphy', its authors shed new and unexpected light on some of the long standing macroevolutionary issues, which have been puzzling evolutionary biologists since Darwin.
