Mjerenje koncentracije vodikovog plina je važno u proizvodnji poluvodiča kao i u zrakoplovnoj i metalurškoj industriji. Među razvijenim senzorima vodika, oni koji se temelje na poluvodičkim metalnim oksidima privukli su pozornost zbog svoje relativno visoke osjetljivosti, dugog vijeka trajanja i termičke stabilnosti. U ovom projektu optimizirat će se mikrostrukturna i površinska svojstva metalno oksidnih nosača (Fe2O3, SnO2 i Fe2xSn2-2xO4-x) sintetiziranih bez prisutnosti vode iz acetat dvovalentnog željeza i kositra. Dvovalentni kationi metala Fe(II) i Sn(II) bit će oksidirani i hidrolizirani pomoću molekula vode stvorene in situ u reakciji esterifikacije između acetatnih skupina i etanola. Nanošenje Pt klastera na površinu sintetiziranih nosačima Fe2O3, SnO2 i Fe2xSn2-2xO4-x će se optimizirati upotrebom Pt(II) acetilacetonatnog prekursora. Očekuje se da će upotreba isključivo dvovalentnih kationa metala (Fe(II), Sn(II) i Pt(II)) kao i visoko kelatnih organskih liganada kao što su acetat i acetilacetonat omogućiti homogeno miješanje različitih M(II) - prekursora, ograničiti rast kristala i rezultirati ravnomjernom disperzijom Pt katalizatora na poluvodičkim nosačima metalnih oksida. Navedeni uzorci bit će sintetiziran primjenom dvaju različitih sintetsklih putova: kugličnim mljevenjem (sinteza u čvrstom stanju), te solvotermalnom sinteze u mikrovalnom reaktoru (pristup odozdo prema gore primjenom mokre kemije). Upotrebom dvije različitih sintetskih tehnika, te variranjem udjela kationa Fe(II) i Sn(II) unutar sintetiziranih čvrstih otopina, omogućit će optimizaciju strukturnih i mikrostrukturnih svojstava metalno oksidnih nosača za postizanja maksimalne disperzije Pt katalizatora, a u svrhu povećanja osjetljivosti dobivenih senzora na prisutnost plina vodika. Ovaj projekt može biti prvi korak u razvoju i proizvodnji novih materijala za senzore plina te u izgradnji komercijalno dostupnog sustava za mjerenje niskih koncentracija plina (senzori plinova).
