IAEA RER2018025/RER1021: „To contribute to improving human health, keeping a cleaner environment, and developing advanced materials through the extended and qualified use of radiation technologies“
Glavni istraživač
Radiation processing is a worldwide and continuously emerging technology in various fields of application in industry, agriculture and environmental protection. Its level of application, especially in developed countries, varies from country to country. Under IAEA TC RER1017 (2016-2017), a comprehensive survey was prepared summarizing the situation in radiation processing in the Member States (MSs) of the European Region. Based on this survey and to achieve sustainability in the region in applying radiation technologies, a detailed regional plan was developed for enhancing MSs capabilities. Under the current RER1019 (2018-2019), this comprehensive plan has been implemented. The project has been promoting further development of the state-of-the-art of this technology among MSs with respect to irradiation facilities in operation, radiation processing, technologies applied, the quality assurance (QA), quality control (QC) and quality management system (QMS) procedures used, and the introduction of radiation processing in MSs where such decision had been made. Through the project, it was identified that the harmonized use of the relevant recently updated national/international QA/QC standards and QM systems needs to be strengthened. Special focus should be put on the education of future generations through cooperation with universities and secondary schools. To enhance efficient knowledge transfer, the initiation and establishment of an interregional cooperation in the field of radiation processing with similar projects in other TC regions is also suggested. The new project proposal is planned to address these emerging issues during the next four years (2020-2023).
