Nobel Laureate Carlo Rubbia to Lecture at the Symposium on Ruđer Bošković in Dubrovnik
On Monday, May 30, the 1984 Nobel Laureate in Physics, Professor Carlo Rubbia, will deliver a lecture in Dubrovnik on his latest research concerning the existence of sterile neutrinos, which could change the concept of the balance of matter that exists in the universe.
Workshop on Free Radicals in Chemical Biology

Young RBI Scientist Receives a Young Scientist Award
At the EMRS Spring Meeting held in Nice from 9th to 13th May and organized by the European Materials Research Society, phD student Marko Karlušić from the Division of Experimental Physics received a Young scientist award for his presentation: Angle dependent threshold for swift heavy ion track formation in SrTiO3.
Nobel Laureate Jean-Marie Lehn to Lecture at the Symposium on Ruđer Bošković
A Nobel Laureates in Chemistry, Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn, will deliver a lecture at an international scientific symposium, Ruđer Josip Bošković – Physicist and Astronomer, which the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) is organizing in cooperation with the University of Zagreb under the auspices of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in honor of the 300th anniversary of Ruđer Bošković's birth. Prof. Lehn's presentation during the symposium will also be the first in the Ruđer Josip Bošković Lecture Series, which the Institute has introduced to commemorate this great jubilee.
Croatia's Investment Potentials Presented to Senior Executives at Leading Finnish Companies
A group of a hundred senior level executives at leading Finnish companies were in Dubrovnik from May 12 to 15, 2011. In addition to participating in professional seminars, they also attended a presentation about Croatia's investment potentials.
The RBI to Establish the First Regional Center for Nuclear Molecular Diagnostics in Preclinical Trials
The Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) has begun establishing the first regional center for nuclear molecular diagnostics in preclinical trials, where scientific research in tumors and chronic degenerative diseases will be conducted. This project will afford the Institute opportunities for innovative research, thereby contributing to its positioning on the European scientific arena, where there are only a few such centers. Today, capital equipment valued at 400,000 EUR is arriving at the RBI – a mini PET camera for small laboratory animals purchased with a loan from the World Bank, under the Science & Technology (S&T) Project funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.

Has the Time Finally Come for Croatia's Accession to CERN?
Whether the time has finally come for Croatia to become accepted as a member of the European Organization for Nuclear Research – CERN, and thus fulfill aspirations of nearly the past three decades, may be known this week. In a two-day visit to Zagreb, Prof. Felicitas Pauss, Ph.D., Head of International Relations at CERN, will have a series of working meetings with key persons for international cooperation from the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia; the Deputy Prime Minister for Investment, Domagoj Ivan Milošević; the Minister of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, Radovan Fuchs, Ph.D.; and the Director of the Directorate for Science, Hrvoje Meštrić, Ph.D. During Prof. Pauss' visit, for the first time the importance and necessity of Croatia's accession to CERN will be presented to the members of the Parliamentary Committee for Science and Higher Education at a special session devoted to this topic.
