Two Young RBI Scientists Receive Poster Prizes
Dr. Jasminka Popović, a scientific associate, and Martina Vrankić, a scientific assistant, of the Laboratory for Thin Films, Division of Materials Physics, Ruđer Bošković Institute, received poster prizes at the 44th course of the International School of Crystallography: The Power of Powder Diffraction.
Recognition by the European Commission of RBI's FP7 CLUNA Project
One of the first FP7 projects of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, the CLUNA (CLUstering phenomeNA in nuclear physics) Project, currently on the brink of completion, has been recognized by the European Commission for quality research and successful implementation of the project tasks. The CLUNA Project is being conducted in the Laboratory for Nuclear Physics and the Laboratory for Ionic Beam Interactons of the Division of Experimental Physics.

RBI organic chemists Dr. Zoran Džolić and Prof. Dr. Mladen Žinić of the Laboratory for Supramolecular and Nucleoside Chemistry, in collaboration with Spanish colleagues from the Department of Chemical Physics, University of Vigo, have published an article in the world's leading journal of general chemistry, Angewandte Chemie International Edition (IF 11.829).
Opening Ceremonies: From Ruđer Bošković to Today – Contribution of Croatian Scientists to the World Scientific Heritage
On Sunday, May 29, in Dubrovnik, opening ceremonies were held for the international symposium From Ruđer Bošković to Today: Contribution of Croatian Scientists to the World Scientific Heritage, under the auspices of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Jadranka Kosor, to be held from May 29 to June 2. Those assembled at the opening ceremonies were greeted by Dr. Danica Ramljak, Director General of the Ruđer Boković Institute; the Mayor of Dubrovnik, Andro Vlahušić; and the Minister of Science, Dr. Radovan Fuchs. The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Luka Bebić, opened the symposium.
Nobel Laureate Carlo Rubbia to Lecture at the Symposium on Ruđer Bošković in Dubrovnik
On Monday, May 30, the 1984 Nobel Laureate in Physics, Professor Carlo Rubbia, will deliver a lecture in Dubrovnik on his latest research concerning the existence of sterile neutrinos, which could change the concept of the balance of matter that exists in the universe.
Workshop on Free Radicals in Chemical Biology
A workshop will be held on Free Radicals in Chemical and Biology at the Ruđer Bošković Institute from June 14 to 17, 2011, within the framework of the program of European Cooperation in Science and Technology – COST. Young RBI Scientist Receives a Young Scientist Award
At the EMRS Spring Meeting held in Nice from 9th to 13th May and organized by the European Materials Research Society, phD student Marko Karlušić from the Division of Experimental Physics received a Young scientist award for his presentation: Angle dependent threshold for swift heavy ion track formation in SrTiO3.
Nobel Laureate Jean-Marie Lehn to Lecture at the Symposium on Ruđer Bošković
A Nobel Laureates in Chemistry, Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn, will deliver a lecture at an international scientific symposium, Ruđer Josip Bošković – Physicist and Astronomer, which the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) is organizing in cooperation with the University of Zagreb under the auspices of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in honor of the 300th anniversary of Ruđer Bošković's birth. Prof. Lehn's presentation during the symposium will also be the first in the Ruđer Josip Bošković Lecture Series, which the Institute has introduced to commemorate this great jubilee.
