Today at the Rectorate of the University of Zagreb, a Letter of Intent on the construction and establishment of a Croatian center for advanced materials and nanotechnology to be located at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, was signed.

Today at the Rectorate of the University of Zagreb, a Letter of Intent on the construction and establishment of a Croatian center for advanced materials and nanotechnology to be located at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, was signed by the Rector of the University of Zagreb, Prof. Aleksa Bjeliš, Ph.D., the Director General of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, Danica Ramljak, Ph.D., and the Head of the Institute of Physics, Petar Pervan, Ph.D.

Nena Peran, Ph.D., a research assistant in the Division of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, recently received the Annual Award of the Society of University Teachers, Scholars and Other Scientists of Zagreb for her contribution in the area of the natural sciences.

A scientist's mobility is an advantage to be cultivated in order to allow him to play the role of an ambassador of his country in the world and a promoter of science and its importance in society, as was said at the celebration at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb held today on the occasion of the election of the distinguished Croatian scientist Ivo Šlaus as President of the World Academy of Art & Science. (HINA)

As part of the series Distinguished Scientists at the RBI, Prof. Jadran Lenarčič, Ph.D., (Jožef Štefan Institute, Slovenia) will deliver a lecture entitled The Jožef Stefan Institute—Between Science and Technology, on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, beginning at 12 noon in the auditorium of Wing III.

The Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) in cooperation with the Center for Inquiry (CFI) Croatia – Center for the Promotion of Science, Humanism and Critical Reasoning, is holding a public forum entitled the Mystique of GMOs, to be led by Dr. Hrvoje Fulgosi, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2012, in the Auditorium of Wing III of the RBI.

Dr. Ivo Šlaus, RBI Scientist Emeritus, was recently elected President of the World Academy of Art & Science. For the first time in history, the headquarters of the WAAS will be located in the Republic of Croatia, at the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
