Organized by the Center for Informatics and Computing (CIC) of the Ruder Boskovic Institute on Friday, Dec 9th  2011 in the auditorium in Wing III of RBI at 14:00, dr. Karolj Skala, head of CIC and Mr. Kristijan Mrsic, director of visual effects in HRT “Croatian kings” series will give a lecture entitled: "Visual Effects: From the beginning of the development of computer graphics at Ruđer to the complex visual effects in the movie Croatian kings".

A group of researchers in the Department of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry comprised of N. Basarić, M. Alešković and K. Majerski have been awarded a US patent. Patent number US 8,022.097 is entitled “Adamantane-dipyrromethane Derivatives, Method of Preparation and Applications in Anion Sensing”.

The Minister of Science, Education and Sports, Dr. Radovan Fuchs formally opened the Centre for Nuclear Molecular Diagnostics at the RBI today. This is the first PET/CT center for preclinical research in the region which will facilitate in vivo research in the fields of tumor biology, degenerative diseases and  the monitoring of metabolic processes in living organisms for a wide spectrum of bioactive molecules marked with radioisotopes.

Yesterday, as part of the  Embassy Series Sponsored by the Ruđer Bošković Institute, the Ambassador of China, H.E.  Shen Zhifei, delivered a lecture entitled Scientific and Technological Innovation Is an Inevitable Way to Sustainable Development, in which he presented the accomplishments and goals of China in the areas of the economy, science and technology.

The Director General of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, Dr. Danica Ramljak, wrote a very interesting commentary in the November 22, 2011 issue of the daily newspaper Večernji list, entitled: “Science, Forgotten Again”, about how politicians are avoiding the topic of the importance of education, science and innovation to the future of Croatia in their public appearances during the election campaign.

Ravnateljica Instituta Ruđer Bošković dr. sc. Danica Ramljak, na osobni poziv predsjednika Mađarske akademije znanosti (HAS), akademika Joszefa Palinkasa, sudjeluje na Svjetskom znanstvenom forumu koji se održava od 17. do 19. studenog 2011. godine u Budimpešti.

The distinguished scientist Prof. Dr. Milivoj Boranić will present a lecture on Thursday, November 24, at 2 p.m., in the Auditorium of Wing III of the RBI, entitled “50 Years of Scientific Work and 75 Years of Life”.

Znanstveni suradnik dr. Enis Afgan iz Centra za informatiku i računarstvo (CIR), objavio je članak pod nazivom "Harnessing cloud computing with Galaxy Cloud" u časopisu Nature Biotechnology (IF=31.1). Rezultati rada omogućuju jednostavnu dostupnost okruženju za izvršavanja bioinformatičkih analiza na cloud infrastrukturi kroz Galaxy aplikaciju.
