In the auditorium of the Rectorate of the University of Split, the inauguration of the doctoral program in the Chemistry of the Mediterranean Environment at the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, University of Split, was officially proclaimed today.

A bioinformatic web service, REVIGO, has been developed at the Division of Electronics of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, which is intended for researchers in biology and biomedicine whose results describe Gene Ontology (GO) categories.

Dr. Nena Peran, research assistant in the Group for Quantum Organic Chemistry (GQOC), Division of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, was awarded with the Best Poster Prize for her contribution entitled "Basicity of Organic Superbases with Vinamidine Structure in Gas Phase and Acetonitrile – a DFT Study" at the international conference The 13th European Symposium on Organic Reactivity (13th ESOR). With the poster, she presented the computational study of organic superbases based on vinamidine, a well known superbase, both in the gas phase and acetonitrile.

As a scientist, lecturer and an initiator of the internationally recognized Zagreb school of heavy-ion physics, Nikola Cindro contributed significantly to the recognition of the Ruđer Bošković Institute and Croatia in Europe and the world.

A gathering in memory of Professor Zvonimir Maksić, a scientist emeritus of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, in the Auditorium in Wing III at the RBI, beginning at 11 a.m

Ana Tomašić Paić, Ph.D., a research assistant at the Laboratory for Electron Microscopy, Department of Molecular Biology, was awarded first prize for a poster presentation entitled “CYP38 auxiliary enzyme in Arabidopsis thaliana is involved in State II transitions” at the international conference „Plant Organellar Signaling - From Algae to Higher Plants“.
